CEO Quote On Sustainability

Dr.Bassim Khoury

By means of our nature as a global society and a species dependent on the natural systems of our planet Earth, we humans are presently facing some huge challenges. Such may pertain to the natural systems supporting us, which are often jeopardised by natural disasters related to climate change, water and food shortages, decreasing biodiversity and inconvenient political manoeuvres. In the interim, we as a society, are also coping with the severe impacts of economic growth and globalization; comprising of steep increments in economic disparities and poverty, cases affiliated to human rights violations and an increase in manmade environmental pollution, alongside the subsequently resulting attendant health and economic impacts. Though such problems are better suited to the growing populations and abrupt economic growth we see mainly taking place in developing economies, the outcomes appear to play out beyond national borders, rendering a cumbersome situation for national governments or international organizations to implement influential countermeasures. It is thus a priority incumbent upon humankind to resolve such obstacles and to create a more sustainable society and global environment.

Against this background, corporate responsibility in the various industrial disciplines has taken on important roles and have delivered significant outputs onto societal outcomes. Entities with sufficient capital, qualified manpower, innovation-pioneered technologies, and those with the ability to conduct business locally or globally are now expected to bear more responsibility and offer targeted solutions to adapt to the external impediments. Investors and customers therefore account for measures considered to promote sustainability when evaluating a company’s due diligence and business opportunities as well as involved risks. Stakeholders are further paying more attention to the insides and the potential of sustainability engagement by corporations when expending shares in investment and transaction decisions. In line with this new trend, and with special regards to the difficult political circumstances dominating over the Palestinian economy, I believe it is critical for us at Pharmacare to exert efforts towards a better sustainability with potential local and global impacts. We should do this jointly to fulfil our important responsibilities as a corporate citizen, to support our people dwelling an extra challenge to the norm within a life under occupation, and to enhance our corporate value as the Pharmacare Group.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Explore More
